Pre-camp Reflections:

What Interests you about this project?
I am hoping to learn more about digital painting and how it works, of course hoping to do better in it. As I am very interested in art and digital painting seems very hard and complicated.
What do you want to learn by doing this project?
Skills on digital painting and hopefully successfully paint something.
What question do you have about this project?
None really, I am very hostile to digital painting
What do you personally want to have achieved by the end of this project?
Skills.

Reflections on Plenary Sessions

- Prof Kerry Sieh, Earth Observatory of Singapore
I mainly learnt the process of studying the tsunamis and, its recent activity or history. This is done by digging a hole through the ground at a spot where a tsunami hit before and observing the different distinct layer in the ground. By using the shit of the animals which contribute to the layer of the ground we can use the carbon in it to identify its age, this would allow us to know roughly when the tsunami took place.
I also learnt that by looking at the thickness of the layer of sand swept up to shore by the tsunami we can find out the strength of the tsunami. With this knowledge I now have a further understanding about the fascinating ways of studying tsunamis.
I also learnt how observing the corals allow us to check the high tide and low tide changes such as how the to plates subduct and track its progress. As corals can’t live over water, once it almost reaches the surface, it will start to grow sideways (wider). So when an earthquake occurs. It would result in more water above the coral for it to grow upwards and when it subduct again, the corals would protrude out of the water and result in it to die
2. IT for Animation by Prof Seah Hock Soon
I learnt about the process to the production of Animation and how it is done, for both 2D Animation and 3D animation. I have also learnt that 2D animation can be done in 2 ways, the traditional way, which is drawing many layers of action and the Modern way of using computers to animate the characters drawn.
I also learnt about the production of 3D animation such as movies like “Avatar” which used a method known as Motion Capture to capture movements of real humans acting with motion sensor attached suits and later animate the “Avatar” characters with the same movement. This would give a more precise and natural feel to the Characters.
I also learnt different Animation techniques such as using special effects, rendering lighting /colour, diffuse lighting and motion capture. which help to enhance the viewing experience for people.
I also learnt the importance of Mathematics in making movies, such as calculating the angles to make the figures more real and smooth and the formulae to make 2D animation into 3D animation.
I also learnt some Animation history such as “Toy Story” being the first 3D movie and “Lion King” being the first movie made in 2D using the computer. (modern method)

I also learnt about different Animation softwares which make animation easier such as Cacani Core which is trying to convert 2D animation into 3D animation with the formula.
3)Innovative breakthroughs in Nano-Science and nano-Technology by Prof Ma Jan...
I leant about the applications Nano-Technology like how it is able to clean water and maintain it fresh to allow more prawns to grow and live in the water.
I also learnt that it is being use to care for skin and cells to allow it to perform better. Although there maybe dangers to such an act.

I also learnt that Nano-Technology may cause cancer as it does penetrate into the skin, these would probably effect the cosmetics agency and its market when the public finds out.
New Questions:
1)I would like to know about Prof Kerry presentation how the age of the bat shit was found out, by what machine and how it worked.
2)I would also want to know if Prof Kerry during his research had specific factors to rank the places so as to put the sensor to track plate movement.

3) I would also want to know about Prof Hock Soon’s presentation on IT animation, how the 2D into 3D formula is formed and how it works. Does it only work when there are certain factors present and doesn’t work when these factors are absent?
Day 1 - 4th June
I spent day 1 at the ADM Auditorium listening to plenary sessions that was given by the Professors of NTU. Overall it was very interesting. I have learnt a lot from the sessions and definitely benefit a lot.
Day 2 - 5th June
I have learnt the basics of editing with adobe photoshop. How to create layers, coloring, saturation and many more skills in photoshop which are essential and important.
Using color changes to create shadows, gradient and make the object look more realistic and 3 Dimensional.
Using color changes to create shadows, gradient and make the object look more realistic and 3 Dimensional.
I can use this skills to edit future photos of myself to make myself look nice which I put up. I can also use it to edit out unwanted parts of photos and also even enhance quality of photos.
This skills can also help me to get a better chance into applying into to subjects which require using photoshop.
